Roaming Troubleshooting: E/3G Icons, Weak Signal & Manual Selection

Causes of "E" / "3G" Throttling or Connection Loss

If international data speeds are extremely slow, signal drops, or the screen displays 2G / EDGE ("E") or 3G, common root causes include:

  • The device automatically latched onto a congested or geographically weak cell tower.

  • Data roaming is switched off in device settings.

  • Cellular data is assigned to the wrong SIM card.

  • Access Point Name (APN) settings failed to configure automatically or got corrupted.

Baseline Checklist Before Manual Network Scan

Verify these settings before performing a manual network search:

  1. Line Assignment: Ensure Unilink eSIM is designated as the active source for Cellular / Mobile Data.

  2. Data Roaming: Ensure the "Data Roaming" toggle for the Unilink profile is switched ON.

Step-by-Step Manual Network Selection

For iOS (iPhone / iPad)

  1. Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).

  2. Tap your active Unilink eSIM line.

  3. Verify that "Data Roaming" is enabled.

  4. Tap "Network Selection".

  5. Toggle off "Automatic" and wait 15–60 seconds for the device to populate the list of local carriers.

  6. Select a supported partner carrier manually from the list.

  7. Toggle Airplane Mode ON and OFF for 10–15 seconds (or restart the device) to register onto 4G / 5G / LTE.

For Android (Samsung, Xiaomi, Pixel, etc.)

  1. Go to Settings > Connections (or Network & internet / SIM cards & mobile networks).

  2. Under SIM Manager, ensure Mobile Data is assigned to the Unilink eSIM.

  3. In the Mobile Networks menu, confirm that "Data Roaming" is enabled.

  4. Tap "Network Operators" (or Search networks).

  5. Toggle off "Select automatically", allow the scan to complete, and select a recommended carrier manually.

  6. Restart the device.

Recommended Partner Carriers by Country

Direct customers to these preferred networks during manual selection:

  • Turkey: Turkcell, Vodafone, Turk Telekom

  • Germany / Europe: Vodafone, O2, Orange, Telia

  • Spain: Movistar, Orange, Vodafone

  • Vietnam: Viettel, Vinaphone

  • Kazakhstan: Beeline only (Tele2 is not supported)

Manual APN (Access Point Name) Setup

If selecting a carrier does not restore internet access, configure the APN settings manually (most common on Android):

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (APN).

  2. Tap "Add" (or the "+" icon).

  3. Enter the following parameters:

    • Name: Unilink

    • APN: isp (or the specific APN name indicated in the plan details).

  4. Leave all other fields blank / default.

  5. Save the APN profile and select it as active.

  6. Restart the device.

Support Escalation Protocol

If manual network selection across all available carriers and APN adjustments fail to establish an LTE/4G link:

  1. Request screenshots of the customer's Cellular and Network Selection menus, along with their exact location (city/district).

  2. Verify line provisioning status and regional outages via the carrier partner portal.

  3. Reissue the eSIM profile or assign an alternative profile if needed.
