Comprehensive Guide to Unilink Plans: Standard vs Unlimited, FUP

1. General Principles Across All Unilink Plans

  • Mobile Data Only (Data-only): Unilink eSIMs are designed exclusively for mobile internet access. A local phone number for traditional cellular services (inbound/outbound GSM voice calls and standard SMS) is not provided. All voice calls and messaging are handled via VoIP and internet messaging platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime, Viber, etc.).

  • Personal Hotspot / Tethering: Fully supported and permitted on all plan tiers without artificial restrictions from Unilink. Customers can freely share their internet connection with laptops, tablets, and travel companions.

2. Plan Comparison

A. Standard Fixed Data Plans (Fixed Data)

  • Plan Examples: 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB, 20 GB, or 50 GB valid for 15 to 30 days.

  • How It Works: The full data allowance is granted upfront for the entire validity period.

  • Speed: Operates at the network's maximum available speed (4G / LTE / 5G) with no daily caps.

  • Data Depletion: Once the data allowance is fully used, internet access terminates until an additional data package is purchased.

  • Best Suited For: Users requiring sustained, unthrottled high speeds for video calls, streaming, online video, and transferring large files without daily restrictions.

B. Daily Unlimited Plans (Daily Unlimited / FUP)

  • Plan Examples: 500 MB/day, 1 GB/day, 2 GB/day, or 3 GB/day for a selected duration (e.g., 7 days).

  • How It Works: A fixed high-speed allowance (4G / 5G / LTE) is allocated every 24 hours.

  • Fair Usage Policy (FUP): Applied by partner carriers to prevent network congestion.

  • Speed Throttling After Limit Depletion: The session is not disconnected, but speeds are throttled. Depending on the destination and local partner carrier, reduced speeds range from 64–128 Kbps up to 512 Kbps – 1 Mbps.

    • Usable for: Text messages and voice notes in messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram), basic chat, and route navigation in maps.

    • Not suitable for: Video calls, online streaming (YouTube, Reels, TikTok), and downloading heavy files or high-resolution photos.

  • Speed Reset: High-speed data resets automatically every 24 hours (at midnight local carrier time).

3. Checking Balance, Refreshing Data, and Top-ups

  1. Checking Remaining Data:

    • Open the Unilink app > navigate to the My eSIMs tab.

    • Tap the active card to view detailed consumption metrics.

  2. Refreshing Carrier Data:

    • On the eSIM details screen, drag the page down (Pull-to-refresh) to trigger real-time data synchronization with the carrier's billing gateway.

  3. Top-up / Extension:

    • Customers can purchase additional data at any point directly within the app: open the active eSIM card and tap Top-up.

  4. Manual Reissue Troubleshooting:

    • If an eSIM profile was manually reissued by a support specialist and the new balance does not appear: go to Profile > tap "Restore Purchases".

    • If data runs out prematurely or displays incorrectly, support agents should verify the active session and billing logs via the provider portal.

4. Customer Data-Saving Recommendations

If a customer reports rapid data consumption, advise the following system adjustments:

  • For iOS (iPhone):

    1. Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data), scroll to the bottom of the app list, and turn off "Wi-Fi Assist" so the device does not consume cellular data during weak Wi-Fi conditions.

    2. Under the active Unilink eSIM settings, enable "Low Data Mode".

  • For Android:

    • Go to network settings and enable "Data Saver" to restrict background network activity and cloud auto-syncing.
